30 for 30 Round Up - And the Things I've Learned

Here is a look back at all 30 of my outfits I made from only 30 pieces!!

Things I've Learned:

1. Despite the copious amounts I own, I don't wear much jewelry.
2. The wider the belt, the more I like it.
3. I don't own enough tights - pulling off skirts in this ever growing colder weather was tough.
4. I need to plan a bit more wisely if I was going to do this again. There are some items that I included just to try and stretch myself that would not include again and other items that didn't even make it into the 30 for 30 that I was tempted by for the entire month!
5. My "wonderful" gray pants are good for walking around, but if you plan on sitting they wrinkle REAL bad!
6. I tried to add splashes of color to my wardrobe during this challenge, but truthfully I prefer neutrals - black, white, navy, brown, camel and blue.
7. My hair is kind of boring. I don't know how to do much of anything exciting with it. I think I need to set up an appointment for a 1:1 tutorial with my hair dresser....oh wait that's right, I don't have a hair dresser! maybe that's my problem.
8. I became intimately familiar with the timer on my camera as I quickly found that my planned photographer (the bf) was not so keen on taking pictures when we got home from work...and taking them in the AM was totally out of the question.
9. Although I like the variety of backgrounds in the first ten outfit posts, I feel like the plainer background in the second half of my 30 for 30 showcases the outfits better.
10. Not shopping is bad for my stress levels. I found that I apparently use shopping as a coping mechanism and ended up spending more time in the grocery and drug stores rather than clothing stores during this challenge. I can't wait to get back to the thrift stores!!!

Day 30: and...DONE!

Tank Top: Kmart, Sweater: Gap, Jeans: Gap, Shoes: Apt.9 via Kohl's, Necklace: Gifted

Surprise. Surprise. I'm not feeling so hott today. My night out is taking it's toll this morning. So my cure - get up, get dressed (in something more than a hoodie - which I want to live in right now), pull myself together and go visit the parent's!
I know Mom will make me some tea and I've heard Dad's been baking lately! Yummy!

Day 29: Black Skirt, Orange Scarf

Scarf: BCDG, Top: Target, Skirt: Banana Republic, Belt: "Borrowed" from brother's closet, Shoes: Me too via Marshall's

First day of "stay-cation"....hung out with the bf and took care of some maintenance things around the apartment...like finally taking out the compost (we've been putting it off for almost 2 weeks because its been so cold, but today it finally made it up into the 40's yay!)

Tonight = more celebration!
It's Girl's Night Out and I. Can't. Wait!!!!!!

By the way - I can't believe tomorrow is Day 30 of my 30 for 30. I also can't believe that we're already more than a week into December. Holy Manoley!

Day 28: Vacation Kick Off w/ Another Friday Date Night!!

Top: Banana Republic, Belt: Thrifted, Skirt: Zara, Shoes: Apt.9 via Kohl's

I got off work at lunch time today and it was the start of my week long personal vacation....or I guess I should say "stay-cation" because I'm not going anywhere. I'm still very excited to sleep in and stay up late every night though!
Really though I'm looking forward to being able to decorate the apartment, get some holiday shopping done and finally get to work on all those crafty projects I have piling up in the corner!
So without further ado to kick off the start of my "stay-cation" we're having another Friday night date night! WHOA - can't wait - so hungry!

Day 27: Versatility

Sweater: Gap, Belt: Italian Flea Market, Skirt (dress): BCDG, Boots: Clarks

I am really thrilled with how versatile I have found this dress to be. I bought it from a shop in our town just before the 30 for 30 challenge started. I paid around $40 for it and it was on sale. My mom probably just fell off her chair if she's reading this. Yes Mom I paid $40 for it! You see, I'm...well..."cheap". I have a hard time justifying paying more than $20 for just about anything because I find such great deals at thrift stores all the time. But thankfully my lovely friend K.T. talked me into this one. I have been able to remix this dress four times now and I still have lots of other ideas for this item up my sleeve when I'm allowed to access the rest of my closet. Here is a look at the other ways I previously managed to wear this lovely number...

Day 26: No Happy Medium

Top: Zara, Jeans: Gap, Boots: Clarks, Purse: Thrifted, Earrings: Old Navy

Today I was cold. This is not unusual, as I tend to like the temperature in our office a few degrees (by few I mean at least 10) warmer than my co-workers, but today I spent the entire morning sitting at my desk in my winter coat. And yes my desk is indoors and away from doors and windows. So to try and cure my frigid fingers and toes I made myself and steaming hot bowl of delicious tomato soup! Gosh was it yummy – but 2/3rds of the way through it I was SO warm that I had to take off both my coat and sweater and actually considered going outside to cool down. I may have even broken a sweat. And of course, without fail, ten minutes later I’m freezing again – no happy medium! L

Day 25: I'm not adjusting well

Top: Target, Sweater: Zara, Skirt: Zara, Shoes: Apt.9 via Kohl's, Necklace: gifted

Believe it or not I'm wearing stockings (nude) with this outfit, although the pictures appear as though I'm not. I would be crazy not to - it's not going to be climbing out of the 30's today and that's way too cold for no stockings. I am not thrilled about this fact. I'm pretty sure I go through this every year. In the summer I am miserable because my body stinks big time at regulating body temperature...and confession: I'm disgustingly sweaty for a girl. I spend all summer talking about how much I love winter more than summer...I tell people "you can always put on more clothes to be warm, but can't take off more to get cool." But then inevitably winter rolls around and rears it's ugly head and again I am reminded that I like winter no more than I like summer because again my body can't regulate it's temperature and I'm freezing all the time and have a constant runny nose. It's really a lose lose situation I think. I'm seriously considering relocating. Somewhere that has constant year round moderate temperatures...anybody know somewhere like that?

24 grams and a 17lb Turkey!

Top: Target, Jacket: Gap, Pants: Banana Republic, Boots: Kmart, Scarf: Thrifted

I faced the elements today and it was freezing! But in an attempt to be a good girlfriend I decided to go out and pick up some fresh veggies from Produce Junction for our turkey dinner tonight. I walked out with 5lbs. of yellow onions and 6lbs. yams for only $3.00! I also managed to score myself a free turkey from the grocery store over Thanksgiving and tonight we're having another turkey dinner...cross your fingers folks because I had a heck of a time getting a 17lb. turkey into the oven all on my own! I guess I need to work on my upper body strength.

Another Day at the Office - Day 23

Top: Kmart, Sweater: Vera Wang via Kohl's, Pants: Banana Republic, Shoes: Me Too via Marshall's

I'm amazed I even managed to get clothes on myself before I walked out the door this morning I was so tired after last night's escapades. I think I actually put together a half decent outfit given the state I was in. In retrospect I think it could definitely use a necklace of some sort, but I did find those hoop earrings in my purse which I think helped me look a bit more put together.

On a brighter note, it's SUNDAY - which means COUPONS! I'm a coupon junkie if you haven't already noticed...and if you haven't you now know. Today my delivery lady definitely made up the past few weeks of mishandled papers.

I have the Sunday paper delivered to my apartment. It costs me $0.25 more than if I went to the store I bought it, but on snow days when I don't want to step foot outside the comfort of my cozy couch, it's well worth the extra quarter. Anyway, the past three weeks I have been shorted coupon circulars (proof of what I junkie I am, I preview them HERE before they even are released so I know what to expect). Today however I was not only delivered all the proper coupon circulars but extra copies as well! Needless to say I was elated, especially because this week included some killer coupons!

Happy Sunday everyone - Hope you had a nice weekend!

Day 22: Saturday = Date Night

Top: JCPenney's, Belt: Hand-Me-Down, Skirt: Banana Republic, Shoes: Apt9 via Kohl's

I had to work today (only in the AM) and this afternoon the bf and I ran errands. Then it was date night - double date night really. We got to go out to eat with my favorites (R&C) to this wonderful Mexican restaurant and if only I had my camera so I could share with you how delectable the flan was that I got for dessert! Oh yes, flan is my favorite!

I was really excited to get to wear this belt with this outfit though! I L-O-V-E this belt, but I'm never quite sure how to pair it up with an outfit. I think tonight this worked out well. The heavy black tights definitely compensated for the short sleeves...its been well below 40 this week and will continue to be, hence why I have decided to hold back on the outdoor photos. Heavy coats, scarves, hats, mitten and more are now a regular part of my morning routine!

Day 21: Counting Pennies....

Top: H&M, Sweater: Old Navy, Jeans and Belt: Gap, Shoes: Dunnes Stores (Ireland)

I decided to go with casual and comfy today. You see, Christmas shopping is about to be in full swing and I'm spending the day running errands. Usually I am the type of person who has everything bought and wrapped up by the end of August - this year, well the truth is I procrastinated! So it's about time to start scrounging together my pennies to buy some pretty goodies for my lovelies!

Recently I came across this adorable oinker! I pretty sure that he is going to go onto my Christmas list so next year I can spend less time scrounging and more time counting all the pennies I've saved!

Day 20 & The Count Down has begun

Shirt: H&M, Belt: Italian Flea Market, Skirt: Zara, Boots: Clarks

We are finally into December (the weather today didn't let me forget it - I was freezing!) and the count down to Christmas has begun! My holiday preparations are starting into full swing and my mind has been spinning all day with new ways to decorate the apartment  and homemade gift ideas.

S'mores_Kit_2

I found these adorable DIY S'mores Kits from Twig and Thistle! If only I knew where to find myself some clear boxes...any suggestions?

Oh yes, and since we will all be so busy decorating and finishing up (or just starting) our Holiday shopping, here is a FREE Hearty Slow Cooker Recipe ebook to help you make it through the busy holiday season while still getting hot meals on the table!

Day 19: Elephants Marching

Shirt: Zara, Vest: Forever21, Belt: Gap, Jeans: Gap, Boots: Kmart

I'm starting to get the itch again to go shopping. So far it has been easy. I was actually enjoying the break from stores, over sized credit card bills, and the "oh jeez what did you buy now and where the heck are we going to store it in our tinny apartment" look from the bf when I come home with shopping bags. Today however I was doing some virtual window shopping and I noticed a theme growing with various things I was drawn too.....Elephants! And after the day I had today, I could use of the patience, luck and strength they are said to symbolize! Here are a few of my favs...
